COURSE CURRICULUM

The Web and Mobile Development Diploma program at Vancouver Island University offers a comprehensive two-year curriculum totaling 68 credits, blending theoretical learning with practical, hands-on experience. In Year 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Applied Operating Systems, Linux Server Management I, Introduction to Programming, and Server-Side Programming. They also explore Mobile Development I, Web Design, and Client-Side Programming, gaining the core technical skills necessary for application development. A key component of the first year is ITAS 195T, a practicum where students apply their knowledge in a real-world work placement. Year 2 focuses on more advanced topics including Web Development I and II, Business Analysis and Systems Design, Mobile Development II, and Database Administration and Design. Courses such as IT Application Security and DevSecOps emphasize secure software development and deployment practices. The program culminates with a final project that allows students to integrate and demonstrate the full range of their technical and professional skills. Throughout the program, students develop expertise in both front-end and back-end development, mobile platforms, databases, and secure coding, while also gaining essential project management, problem-solving, and communication skills. Graduates are prepared for immediate employment in the tech industry or further education in software development or computer science.
