COURSE CURRICULUM

The Systems Administration and Cybersecurity diploma program at Vancouver Island University spans two years and provides a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training. In the first year, students complete 36 credits, beginning with core courses like Windows Administration and Security I, Secure Cloud Computing I, Applied Hardware and Operating Systems, Network Infrastructure Fundamentals, and Linux Server Management. Additional instruction in Project Management, Programming, and Network Security – Routing and Switching I ensures a well-rounded foundation. The year concludes with a practicum (ITAS 195T), offering real-world experience. In the second year, students complete 32 credits focused on advanced topics, including Windows Administration and Security II and III (covering directory and advanced services), Linux Infrastructure and Security, Database Administration and Design, and Secure Cloud Computing II. Cybersecurity training intensifies with Ethical Hacking and Cyber Defense I and II and Network Security – Routing and Switching II. By the end of the program, graduates possess the skills to deploy, manage, and secure complex IT systems across various platforms and environments, making them career-ready for roles in systems administration, network security, and cybersecurity operations.
