COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forestry Resources Technology Diploma program’s first year includes 41 credits covering foundational courses such as Forest Surveying, Forest Inventory, Forest Biometrics, Spatial Data, Forest Botany, and Forest Ecology, along with essential topics like Forest Hydrology and Riparian Management, Forest Soils, Fire Management, and Computer Applications for Forest Technologists. Students also develop academic skills through University Writing and Research, Business and Technical Writing, and Introduction to Statistics. In the second year, students complete 37 credits with advanced courses including Research and Communications, Silviculture Assessment, Silviculture I and II, Forest Ecology II focusing on Ecosystems and Management, Integrated Resource Management, and Forest Harvesting Systems. They also study Forest Harvest Planning, Forest Road Design and Planning, and Information Technology, with practical learning through an Interior Field Trip. Specialized subjects such as GIS for Natural Sciences, Forest Pathology, and Forest Entomology deepen students’ expertise. This comprehensive curriculum combines theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills essential for careers in forest technology, preparing graduates for professional certification and employment in the forestry sector.
