COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology program spans two years, offering a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills essential for a career in the field. In the first year, students study foundational courses such as Life History and Management of Salmonids, Biology of Fishes, Aquatic Habitats, and Aquatic Plant and Algae Ecology, alongside practical technician skills and applied techniques in aquatic systems. Work experience is integrated through Fisheries and Aquaculture Work Experience courses, providing valuable hands-on learning. Students also complete courses in biology, university writing, and statistics to support their scientific understanding and communication skills, totaling 39 credits. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced courses including Invertebrate Zoology, Larval Rearing and Invertebrate Culture, Fisheries Management, Fish Health, and Fisheries Engineering focused on hydrology and hydraulics. Additional studies in Fish Habitat Assessment and Rehabilitation, Freshwater Fisheries Field Techniques, and applied aquatic techniques further enhance practical expertise. Students continue work experience and develop communication skills through dedicated practicum courses. The second year comprises 38 credits and offers students opportunities to specialize in areas of interest, preparing them for diverse roles in fisheries, aquaculture, and environmental management.
