COURSE CURRICULUM

The Engineering Transfer Diploma program at Vancouver Island University offers a comprehensive first- and second-year curriculum designed to prepare students for transfer to university engineering programs. In the first year, students take foundational courses including Computer Science I for Engineering (CSCI 160), University Writing and Research (ENGL 115), Engineering Design I (ENGR 112), Calculus I (MATH 121), and Physics for the Physical Sciences I (PHYS 121) in the fall semester, followed by Business and Technical Writing (ENGL 204), Calculus II (MATH 122), Engineering Design II (ENGR 121), Matrix Algebra for Engineers (MATH 141), and Physics for the Physical Sciences II (PHYS 122) in the spring semester, totaling 33 credits. Students interested in the optional engineering Co-Op program are encouraged to take ENGR 107 in the spring. The second year builds on this foundation with courses such as Engineering Chemistry (CHEM 150), Calculus III (MATH 221), Statistics I (MATH 254), and Computer Science or Science electives in the fall semester, followed by Engineering Mechanics (ENGM 141), Calculus IV (MATH 222), and additional Computer Science or Science electives in the spring semester, totaling 31 credits. This structured two-year program equips students with essential engineering knowledge and skills, facilitating smooth transfer to universities such as the University of Victoria, where they can continue their engineering education.
