COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geoscience (BSc) program offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary curriculum that combines Earth Science and Geography, beginning with foundational courses in chemistry, calculus, geography, and geology in the first year. Students complete courses such as Environmental Geography, Discovering Planet Earth, Understanding Earth's History, and introductory chemistry and calculus sequences, alongside laboratory and field-based learning in courses like Laboratory and Field Studies in Earth Science. In second year, the program deepens students' understanding through courses such as Atmospheric and Earth Environments, Maps and Mapping, Mineralogy, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, Earth Structures, and Geological Field Methods and Mapping—a 10-day off-campus field course. A statistics course (MATH 211) is also included, and students aiming to meet Professional Geoscientist requirements are encouraged to take a physics elective. In the final two years, students complete a minimum of 30 upper-level credits, including Geographic Information Systems and Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, along with a selection of upper-level GEOL and GEOG courses. These may include Climatology, Biogeography, Hydrology, Geomorphology, and others focused on environmental geoscience. The program emphasizes fieldwork, research, and applied geoscience skills, preparing students for professional registration, graduate studies, or careers in environmental consulting, resource management, and geotechnical industries.
