COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science Major in Chemistry at VIU offers a comprehensive curriculum starting with foundational courses in physics, chemistry, and mathematics in the first year, including options like Physics for Physical or Life Sciences, Chemistry Fundamentals I and II, and Calculus I and II. The second year deepens knowledge with courses such as Environmental Chemical Analysis, Practical Spectroscopy, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I and II, Physical Chemistry, and Principles of Biochemistry, alongside recommended math electives like Calculus III or Statistics. In the third and fourth years, students engage in advanced topics including Green Chemistry and Toxicology, Instrumental Analysis, Reaction Kinetics and Mechanisms, Integrated Organic and Inorganic Laboratory, Physical Laboratory, and Emerging Topics in Chemistry, supplemented by upper-level electives tailored to their interests.
