COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Resources Management Major within Vancouver Island University’s Bachelor of Business Administration program offers a focused curriculum over Years 2 to 4, building on the foundational first-year requirements. In Year 2, students complete courses such as Intro to Cost and Managerial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Buyer Behaviour, Introduction to E-Management, Human Resource Management, Business Statistics I, and nine elective credits, totaling 30 credits. Year 3 deepens HR knowledge with Commercial Law, International Business, and specialized courses including Workplace Safety and Wellness or Strategic Human Resources Planning, Training and Development, Compensation and Benefits or Recruitment and Selection, Negotiations, plus three upper-level business credits and nine electives. These advanced courses, offered every other year, ensure comprehensive HR training. In Year 4, students complete the complementary HR courses not taken in Year 3, Labour and Employee Relations, and Strategic Management Issues, alongside a Senior Project, Business Internship, or six upper-level business credits. They also complete additional upper-level business and elective credits to reach 30 credits for the year. The program totals 120 credits for graduation and prepares students for careers in HR management by equipping them with skills in employee relations, strategic planning, recruitment, training, and workplace wellness, integrating practical experience with theory to meet the evolving needs of modern organizations.
