COURSE CURRICULUM

The Financial Services Major within Vancouver Island University’s Bachelor of Business Administration program offers a comprehensive curriculum over Years 2 to 4, building on the foundational first-year courses. In Year 2, students complete key courses such as Intro to Cost and Managerial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Financial Planning, Buyer Behaviour, Introduction to E-Management, Business Statistics I, and nine elective credits, totaling 30 credits. Year 3 focuses on advanced topics including Financial Accounting II, Money, Banking and Financial Institutions, Corporate Finance, Commercial Law, International Business, Econometrics, one upper-level Finance elective, and nine electives, again totaling 30 credits. In the final year, students study International Finance, Services Marketing, and Strategic Management Issues, along with a Senior Project, Business Internship, or six upper-level credits. They also complete two upper-level Finance electives, three upper-level business credits, and six elective credits, bringing the year’s total to 30 credits. This program equips students with in-depth knowledge and skills in financial services, banking, corporate finance, and international markets. It integrates practical experience through projects or internships, preparing graduates for diverse careers in financial planning, banking, investment management, and corporate finance. With its blend of theory, applied learning, and strategic business understanding, the major prepares students to succeed in the dynamic financial services industry.
