COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a Major in Accounting at Vancouver Island University requires students to complete 120 credits over four years. In Year 1, students follow the general BBA structure, as outlined in the Majors and Minors section. Year 2 includes foundational courses such as Financial Accounting II, Taxation I, Intro to Cost and Managerial Accounting, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, E-Management, Business Statistics I, and nine elective credits, totaling 30 credits. Year 3 builds on this with Taxation II, Intermediate Accounting for Assets and Liabilities, Cost and Managerial Accounting II, Data Analytics for Accountants, Corporate Finance, Commercial Law, International Business, Management Information Systems, and one elective, again totaling 30 credits. In Year 4, students take courses in Auditing, Accounting Theory, Advanced Financial Accounting, Strategic Management, and Econometrics. They must also complete a capstone element through a Senior Project, Accounting Internship, or a combination of upper-level and regular electives, along with nine additional elective credits, bringing the final year total to 30 credits. The program combines core business and accounting theory with practical skills, preparing students for CPA pathways or roles in finance, auditing, or management. PHIL 330 and MGMT 293 are recommended to further enhance critical thinking and leadership competencies.
