COURSE CURRICULUM

The VIU Kinesiology program is structured over four years, beginning with foundational courses in Years 1 and 2 that cover essential topics such as human anatomy, physiology, motor learning and control, exercise prescription, nutrition, sport and exercise psychology, and physical growth and motor development. Students also take instructional strategies for sport and physical education in their first year, alongside five two-credit kinesiology activity courses that promote hands-on learning and physical engagement. Additionally, students complete English degree requirements and elective credits from various disciplines to broaden their academic experience, totaling 60 credits in the first two years. In Years 3 and 4, students focus on advanced studies with courses such as research methods in kinesiology and select 27 upper-level kinesiology electives tailored to their interests and career goals. They also complete 18 elective credits and 12 upper-level elective credits, ensuring a comprehensive and flexible curriculum totaling another 60 credits. This program design combines rigorous scientific knowledge, practical skills, and interdisciplinary learning, providing students with a strong foundation for careers in rehabilitation sciences, physical therapy, exercise science, or graduate studies. The blend of theory, research, and physical activity prepares graduates to make meaningful contributions to health and well-being in diverse settings.
