COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education program is structured over five years, with Years 1 to 3 serving as the Pre-Professional phase, requiring a total of 78 credits. During these years, students complete courses in degree English, approved sciences, Canadian studies, mathematics, and foundational education courses such as Teaching: The Human Interaction, Becoming a Teacher, and Sustainability & Teacher Identity. They also take electives approved by the Teacher Regulation Branch and other undergraduate or transfer courses to broaden their knowledge. Students are encouraged to take additional courses to pursue minors, complementary certificates, or supplementary electives to enhance their teaching practice. By the end of Year 3, students must have completed at least 78 credits to progress to Year 4, with some flexibility in when elective courses are taken. The Professional Years, Years 4 and 5, total 74 credits and focus on advanced education courses like Principles of Teaching and Learning III-VI, curriculum and instruction in various subjects, instructional design, social justice, special educational needs, and field experiences including practicum placements. Year 4 includes courses such as Curriculum and Instruction in Visual Arts, Science, and Language Arts, along with two field experiences, while Year 5 culminates in a final practicum and courses on social studies, physical education, and second language acquisition. In total, the program requires 152 credits to complete, fully preparing students for teaching careers.
