COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design program at VIU is structured to provide a comprehensive and immersive education over four years, blending foundational art and design courses with specialized technology and professional practice classes. In Year 1, students take core studio courses like ARTG 120, 140, 150, and 160 alongside technology classes ARTG 124 and 130, and professional practice ARTG 110, supplemented by university writing and research (ENGL 115) and two electives, totaling 30 credits. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced studios such as ARTG 241, 251, and 261, alongside technology courses ARTG 237, 272, and the introduction of User Interface/User Experience Design I (ARTG 273), plus professional practice and business writing, maintaining a 30-credit load. Year 3 emphasizes professional development and internship experience with ARTG 310, 345, and design studios including ARTG 351 and 371, plus UI/UX Design II (ARTG 373) and a third-year internship (ITRN 303), alongside electives, totaling 30 credits. In the final year, students focus on advanced design studios (ARTG 472, 475, 482), professional practice (ARTG 410), and UI/UX Design III and IV (ARTG 473, 474), complemented by core studios (ARTG 476, 480), finishing with two electives, for a total of 30 credits. This curriculum equips students with both creative and technical expertise, preparing them for diverse careers in graphic design and digital media.
