COURSE CURRICULUM

Visual Art (BA) program, students complete a comprehensive set of courses across their first two years, totaling 18 credits. The foundational first-year courses include ARTS 101 (Drawing I), ARTS 110 (Contemporary Art: Concepts and Terminology), ARTS 112 (History of Western Art II), ARTS 120 (Two-Dimensional Design), and ARTS 121 (Three-Dimensional Design). Additionally, students select one of two courses—ARTS 212 (Survey of European and American Art From 1900 to the Present) or ARTS 216 (Art of West Coast First Nations I)—to deepen their understanding of art history and cultural perspectives. In the third and fourth years, students engage in advanced coursework with a total of 30 credits. These upper-level courses include ARTS 301 and 302 (Advanced Drawing I and II), ARTS 310 (Cultural Studies in the Visual Arts), ARTS 384 (Two- and Three-Dimensional Studies), ARTS 430 (Art Careers/Curatorial Practices), ARTS 483 (Multimedia Studies IV), ARTS 484 (Advanced Studio: Multi-Disciplinary), and ARTS 486 (Graduating Project). Students also select an additional six credits of upper-level studio courses to further specialize their practice. This structured progression ensures a balanced development of technical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional preparation, culminating in a significant final project that showcases students’ artistic growth and readiness for careers or postgraduate studies in the arts.
