COURSE CURRICULUM

Studies in Women and Gender (SWAG) program, students are required to complete twelve credits in their first and second years, with at least six credits coming from lower-level SWAG courses. To provide flexibility and interdisciplinary engagement, students may also take up to six credits from approved courses offered by other departments that align with the program’s focus on gender and related social categories. In the third and fourth years, students must complete a minimum of thirty credits of upper-level SWAG courses, which deepen their understanding of gender as it intersects with race, class, sexuality, and other socio-cultural differences. Of these thirty credits, up to twelve may be from approved courses in other departments that emphasize gender or related social categories, supporting a broader interdisciplinary perspective. This structure ensures a solid foundation in feminist and gender studies while encouraging exploration across disciplines, fostering critical analysis and engagement with complex social issues. The program’s course requirements balance specialization in women and gender studies with opportunities for students to engage with complementary fields, preparing them to analyze and address gender-based power dynamics in various social and institutional contexts.
