COURSE CURRICULUM

Sociology (BA) program, students must complete core courses including SOCI 111 (Introduction to Sociology), SOCI 209 (Social Inequality), and SOCI 250 (Introduction to Social Research) or an equivalent course, along with two additional lower-level Sociology courses, all with a minimum average grade of C+ and no grade below C. Students with credit in SSID 250, CRIM 220, or PSYC 204 are exempt from SOCI 250. In the third and fourth years, students take SOCI 310 (Foundations of Social Theory) or SOCI 312 (Contemporary Sociological Theory), followed by a research methods course from options such as SOCI 350 (Qualitative Research), SOCI 351 (Quantitative Research and Analysis), or related courses in criminology, psychology, or social science interdisciplinary studies, requiring a minimum grade of C. Additionally, students must complete at least 24 credits of upper-level Sociology courses, which may include experiential learning options like SOCI 391, 392, 393, or 499. Up to nine of these credits can come from courses outside the Sociology department, with approval, allowing flexibility in pursuing interdisciplinary studies. This structure ensures a strong foundation in sociological theory and research methods while encouraging practical experience and broad academic exploration.
