COURSE CURRICULUM

Political Studies program, students must complete 21 credits of 100- and 200-level POLI courses, beginning with six credits of core first-year classes: POLI 100 (An Introduction to Power, Politics and the Public Interest) and POLI 151 (Law and Politics in Canada). For the second year, students select at least nine credits from key courses such as POLI 200 (The Politics of War and Peace) or POLI 201 (International Political Economy), POLI 221 (Canadian Politics and Government) or POLI 222 (Governance and Public Policy in Canada), POLI 231 (Comparative Politics), and POLI 260 or POLI 265 (introductions to Political Thought). Only one course from each paired option can count toward the second-year core. Additionally, students must fulfill a methods course requirement by choosing three credits from social research options such as SOCI 250, SSID 250, CRIM 220, or ANTH 215, with prerequisites varying by course. Students also select an additional three credits of 200-level POLI courses or PHIL 231 (Social and Political Philosophy). In the third and fourth years, students focus on advanced study by completing 30 credits of 300- and 400-level POLI courses, allowing for specialization in their areas of interest. This structured progression equips students with a solid foundation in political studies and research methods, preparing them for in-depth analysis and professional engagement in political and public policy fields.
