COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media Studies (BA) program curriculum begins with foundational courses in the first two years, including MEDI 100 (Introduction to Media Studies and Communication) and MEDI 110 (Introduction to Media Production), each worth three credits, alongside two additional 100- or 200-level Media Studies courses, totaling 12 credits. These early courses introduce students to core concepts of media communication and hands-on production skills, establishing a solid base for advanced study. In the third and fourth years, students deepen their understanding through MEDI 310 (Media Literacy), a 3-credit course focusing on critical analysis of media messages and their cultural impact. Additionally, students select three 300- or 400-level Media Studies courses, earning nine credits, allowing them to explore specialized topics in media theory, practice, and research at an advanced level. This upper-level coursework encourages critical thinking, media literacy, and engagement with contemporary issues in media industries. The structured yet flexible curriculum equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for diverse media careers. Overall, the program’s 24-credit structure balances introductory exposure with in-depth study, fostering students’ ability to critically assess and creatively respond to evolving media landscapes, preparing them for opportunities in writing, production, education, public service, and entrepreneurship.
