COURSE CURRICULUM

Kinesiology (BA) program at Vancouver Island University, students in their first two years complete 17 credits, including core science courses such as KIN 201 (Human Anatomy) and KIN 220 (Human Physiology), each worth 4 credits and fulfilling lab/science requirements for education programs. Additionally, students select one lower-level Kinesiology elective worth 3 credits to broaden their foundational knowledge. Complementing these academic courses, students participate in three two-credit Kinesiology activity courses, typically numbered at the 100 level, with options including KIN 203, KIN 222, KIN 270, and KIN 285. These activity courses provide practical, hands-on experiences that promote physical fitness and skill development. In the third and fourth years, students focus on more advanced studies by completing 12 credits of upper-level Kinesiology courses numbered 300 and above. This progression allows for specialization and deeper exploration of topics related to human movement, health, and wellness. Together, the curriculum balances theoretical knowledge with applied learning, preparing students for careers in education, rehabilitation sciences, coaching, personal training, sports administration, and outdoor leadership. The program’s structure encourages the development of critical skills and practical experience necessary for success in the diverse fields related to kinesiology and physical health.
