COURSE CURRICULUM

Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Studies (BA) program, students in their first two years must select one introductory course, either INDG 103 (Introduction to Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Studies I) or INDG 104 (Introduction to Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Studies II), alongside nine credits of Indigenous studies courses numbered between 100 and 299. These courses provide foundational knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues, supporting students' understanding of Indigenous perspectives and experiences. In addition to these courses, students complete the university’s Degree English requirements to fulfill general education standards, bringing the total credits for the first two years to 12. In the third and fourth years, students focus on advanced study by completing 30 credits of Indigenous courses numbered 300 to 499, allowing for in-depth exploration of specialized topics within Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Studies. This upper-level coursework enables students to engage with complex themes, research methodologies, and critical analysis within Indigenous contexts. Overall, the program’s structure supports a progressive deepening of knowledge and skills, preparing students for meaningful involvement in Indigenous communities and broader society. It also fosters cultural understanding, academic growth, and professional readiness for diverse careers or further study in Indigenous and related fields.
