COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Diploma program requires a minimum of 60 credits for graduation, with an average course load of 15.0 credits per semester. Students may not register for more than 18.0 credits without written permission from the Music Department Leader. A full-time course load is defined as at least 9 credits per term, and dropping below this threshold requires departmental approval. Generally, students enrolled in fewer than 9 credits per term are not eligible for individual instruction unless they have previously completed all academic and skills-course requirements for that term. The program is structured across four terms, each with a course load of approximately 15 credits. In the first term, students take courses such as Musicianship 1, Theory and Practice of Music 1, Performance Techniques 1, Music in Context 1, Music and Media 1, Individual Instruction 1, and a Performance Ensemble. The second term includes Musicianship 2, Theory and Practice of Music 2, Performance Techniques 2, Music in Context 2, Music and Media 2, Individual Instruction 2, and Performance Ensemble. The third term expands with Musicianship 3, Theory and Practice of Music 3, Performance Techniques 3, and electives including Musicology 1, Electronic Music 1, or Improvisation 1, along with Social Media for the Self-employed Musician, Individual Instruction 3, and Performance Ensemble. The final term features Musicianship 4, Theory and Practice of Music 4, Performance Techniques 4, electives such as Musicology 2, Electronic Music 2, or Improvisation 2, Career Opportunities for Musicians, Individual Instruction 4, and Performance Ensemble. This comprehensive program develops musical skills, theoretical knowledge, and career readiness, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for diverse music-related professions.
