COURSE CURRICULUM

This comprehensive jewellery design program spans four terms and covers a wide range of skills and knowledge essential for professional practice. In the first term, students begin with foundational metal techniques in goldsmithing, introductory drawing, and an exploration of the history and culture of jewellery, earning 15 credits. The second term deepens practical skills with wax modeling, casting, gemstone settings, and practical gemmology, along with design principles and a year-one capstone project, totaling 15.5 credits. During the third term, students advance their metal fabrication skills and gemstone setting techniques, continue developing drawing abilities and gemmology expertise, and are introduced to digital jewellery design, also completing 15.5 credits. The final term focuses on specialized jewellery processes, advanced gemstone settings, design, and digital jewellery design, while incorporating essential business practices for jewellers to prepare for entrepreneurship and professional work. This term culminates with a diploma project, and students earn 17.5 credits. Overall, the program totals 63.5 credits, balancing technical craftsmanship with design, historical context, digital tools, and business management, enabling graduates to pursue creative, skilled, and sustainable careers in the jewellery industry.
