COURSE CURRICULUM
The Automotive Collision and Refinishing Technician program spans four terms and is structured to provide a comprehensive blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the areas of automotive refinishing, collision repair, and related trades. In the first term, students begin by developing foundational workplace and safety skills (ACRD 1100), learning about essential tools and equipment (ACRD 1105), and gaining introductory experience in vehicle detailing (ACRD 1135). Key communication skills (ACRD 1130) are emphasized alongside training in steel welding, cutting, and heating (ACRD 1140), basic vehicle construction (ACRD 1150), and initial estimating and planning techniques (ACRD 1155), totaling 17 credits. In the second term, students advance into more specialized areas including sheet metal repair (ACRD 1200, 1205), plastics and composites (ACRD 1210), and further development in vehicle construction (ACRD 1220). Continued communication skills (ACRD 1230), welding techniques (ACRD 1240), and refined scheduling and estimating skills (ACRD 1255) bring the term’s total to 16.5 credits. The third term emphasizes refinishing practices, including use of tools and equipment (ACRD 2140), surface preparation (ACRD 2145), material usage (ACRD 2150), and advanced detailing (ACRD 2135). Students also participate in trade practice (ACRD 2130) and continue project estimation (ACRD 2155), earning 15.5 credits. In the final term, students consolidate their skills through trade practice (ACRD 2230), auto glass repair (ACRD 2236), advanced refinishing (ACRD 2240), and a focus on mechanical and electrical systems (ACRD 2250). The curriculum concludes with the final stage of estimating and planning training (ACRD 2255), resulting in 15 credits. Across all four terms, students earn a total of 64 credits, preparing them for immediate entry-level employment in the automotive collision and refinishing industry, and providing a pathway toward apprenticeship certification.
