COURSE CURRICULUM

The hair design program at VCC is structured to provide students with comprehensive training through a schedule that runs three days per week, either from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with classes held Monday to Wednesday or Thursday to Saturday based on assigned cohort schedules. While students attend classes only three days each week, they are expected to dedicate the remaining days to studying, preparing for exams, and completing assignments to ensure mastery of the material. Class times may be subject to change, providing some flexibility in scheduling. The program is divided into three terms, beginning with the first term which focuses on the fundamentals of professional practice, accounting for 16 credits. This foundational term introduces students to essential industry knowledge, including health and safety standards, professional conduct, and basic hair design principles. In the second term, students deepen their expertise through specialized hair services and client care courses, also totaling 16 credits, where they learn advanced styling techniques, client consultation, and service customization to meet individual needs. The third and final term consists of 9 credits dedicated to technical skills and career development, preparing students for successful entry into the hair design industry by honing practical skills, business knowledge, and career readiness. Altogether, the program requires 41 credits to complete, equipping graduates with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to excel as professional hairstylists in a dynamic salon environment.
