COURSE CURRICULUM

This advanced music program spans four academic terms and totals 68 to 70 credits, offering students a focused and immersive experience in performance, theory, and professional development. In Term 5, students choose between Performance Concentration 5 or Classical Voice 5 and begin intensive training in Performance Techniques 5. Core studies include Materials of Music 5, Music and Culture 1, and Career Opportunities, complemented by options such as Conducting 1 or Creative Music Improvisation 1. Directed Ensemble 5 offers practical ensemble experience. Term 6 continues with Performance Concentration 6 or Classical Voice 6, Performance Techniques 6, and Directed Ensemble 6, while expanding into Advanced Rhythm Studies and further electives in fields such as humanities, technology, business, or sciences. Students also continue their choice between Conducting 2 or Creative Music Improvisation 2. Term 7 includes Performance Concentration 7 or Classical Voice 7 and Performance Techniques 7, with a strong professional emphasis through the Career Opportunities Practicum. A Music Seminar and six elective credits broaden academic and artistic development. In Term 8, the final stage of study includes Performance Concentration 8 or Classical Voice 8, Performance Techniques 8, Music Seminar 2, and additional music and general electives. Throughout the program, students gain advanced training in solo and ensemble performance, develop stylistic nuance, and refine their stage, production, and improvisational skills. The curriculum supports career readiness with a practicum and courses in professional development, while also emphasizing cultural context, rhythm, music analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration. With opportunities to specialize in areas like voice, improvisation, or conducting, and the flexibility to incorporate cross-disciplinary electives, the program prepares students to succeed as versatile and self-reliant professionals in today’s evolving music and arts industries, capable of working in performance, education, arts organizations, or self-directed creative careers.
