COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science program follows a structured four-year sequence that progressively builds technical, mathematical, and software development expertise. In the first year, students complete foundational courses in programming and mathematics, including COMP 1400 and 1410 for algorithmic thinking and coding, along with mathematical foundations, linear algebra, and both differential and integral calculus. These courses establish problem-solving and analytical skills essential for computing. In the second year, the curriculum becomes more technical, covering object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms, systems programming, computer architecture, and theoretical foundations of computer science, along with statistics or probability. This stage strengthens both practical coding abilities and understanding of how computers process information. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics such as software engineering, database management systems, operating systems, computer networks, and theory of computation, supported by numerical analysis or methods. These courses emphasize system design, efficiency, and real-world applications. In the fourth year, students engage in high-level concepts including programming language principles and advanced algorithm design, alongside a major project management course that integrates knowledge through practical application. Overall, the program provides a balanced mix of theory, programming, and system-level understanding, preparing graduates for diverse careers in software development, research, and advanced computing fields.
