COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Computer Science curriculum is structured over three years, progressively building strong foundations in programming, mathematics, and advanced computing concepts. In the first year, students complete ten courses that introduce core principles of computer science and mathematics. Key subjects include programming fundamentals through COMP 1400 and COMP 1410, along with COMP 1000, which explores essential computing concepts. Mathematical foundations are established through courses such as linear algebra (MATH 1250 or 1260) and calculus (MATH 1720 or 1760), providing the analytical skills needed for problem-solving in computing. In the second year, students advance into more technical areas, including object-oriented programming using Java, data structures and algorithms, systems programming, and computer architecture, along with statistics for scientific applications. These courses strengthen both programming expertise and understanding of how computer systems function internally. In the third year, the focus shifts to specialized and applied topics such as database management systems, software design, operating systems, and either web development or computer networks. This stage emphasizes real-world applications, system design, and advanced problem-solving skills. Overall, the program ensures a balanced development of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing students for careers in software development, IT, and related technology fields.
