COURSE CURRICULUM

The Political Science curriculum provides students with a comprehensive understanding of government, politics, and public policy at local, national, and global levels. Introductory courses such as Introduction to Canadian Government and Politics, Comparative Politics in a Changing World, and Introduction to International Relations establish foundational knowledge of political systems, ideologies, and global affairs. Students can explore specialized topics including Indigenous Policy and Constitutional Relationships, Women and Politics, Environmental Policy and Politics, Public Opinion and Mass Media, and Legal Process in Canada, offering insight into contemporary political issues and societal challenges. Courses in public administration, policy analysis, and political thought, including Classical and Modern Political Thought, provide the theoretical frameworks necessary to analyze governance, legislation, and civic engagement. International perspectives are emphasized through courses like Government and Politics of the United States, Politics of the Developing World, Government and Politics in Europe, and Asian Government and Politics, preparing students for global careers. Additional practical skills are developed through Introduction to Research Methods, Information Searching and Analysis, and opportunities to engage with co-op placements and internships. Advanced courses in political parties, elections, legislative processes, government-business relations, local government, political geography, and social policy equip students with analytical, research, and communication skills necessary to navigate complex political environments and contribute effectively to public service, policy development, or international organizations.
