COURSE CURRICULUM

The philosophy program at UWindsor offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop critical thinking, reasoning, and ethical judgment through a diverse array of courses spanning introductory to advanced levels. First-year courses such as Introduction to Western Philosophy, Philosophy and Human Nature, Contemporary Moral Issues, and Reasoning Skills provide students with foundational knowledge of philosophical thought, logic, and ethical reasoning. Second-year courses expand into specialized areas including Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Religion, Feminist Philosophies, Indigenous Philosophy, Argumentation, and Symbolic Logic, giving students opportunities to explore contemporary issues and develop analytical skills. Third-year offerings include Social Pathologies, Advanced Topics in Ethical Theory, Human Rights and Global Justice, Philosophy of Education, Women, Knowledge and Reality, Environmental Philosophy, Argumentation Theory, and historical studies of Enlightenment and Kantian thought, fostering both theoretical depth and practical application. Fourth-year courses focus on senior seminars, advanced studies in law, continental and analytic philosophy, and explorations of ancient and early modern philosophical traditions, encouraging independent research, critical writing, and discussion.
