COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Science in Vision Science program offers a personalized course structure designed to accommodate the diverse needs and academic backgrounds of students. To fulfill the course requirements, students must complete a minimum of four one-term graduate courses (0.50 unit weight each or equivalent). Of these, three courses must be selected from the Vision Science Core Course Streams, ensuring a well-rounded education in key areas of the field. Specifically, students are required to take at least one course from Core Stream A – Scientific Methods (OPTOM 650 to OPTOM 669), which focuses on foundational research techniques and methodologies essential for vision science. Additionally, at least one course must be taken from Core Stream B – Vision Science (OPTOM 670 to OPTOM 689), covering critical topics related to the biological, physiological, and clinical aspects of vision. Typically, only one course can be an independent study (OPTOM 608 Special Topics in Vision Science), allowing students to explore specialized interests under faculty supervision. This flexible yet structured approach equips students with the comprehensive knowledge and research skills needed to successfully complete their thesis and contribute meaningfully to the field of vision science.
