COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option in the Master of Science in Earth Sciences Collaborative Water program requires students to complete two core Water courses: WATER 601 (Integrated Water Management) and WATER 602 (Integrated Water Management Project), with WATER 602 counting as one of the four required one-term courses (each 0.50 unit weight). In total, students must complete at least four one-term courses, including EARTH 695 (Earth MSc Seminar Proposal), which is mandatory. All courses must be at the EARTH 600 level or equivalent, though one 400-level undergraduate course may count toward the course requirements. This interdisciplinary degree, offered through the Collaborative Water Program, fosters a broad perspective on water by integrating training from various academic departments while emphasizing collaboration through the core WATER courses. Students complete their specialist research and coursework within their home departments but engage with peers across disciplines in these interdisciplinary courses. The program allows some flexibility, but the home department ultimately decides if Collaborative Water courses can fulfill elective requirements, meaning students might need to take additional courses to meet specific program criteria. Additionally, students may be required to complete undergraduate-level prerequisite courses to ensure preparedness for graduate-level study. Overall, this structure supports a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to water-related research and management.
