COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing the thesis option must successfully complete at least four one-term graduate courses, each with a 0.50 unit weight. Among these courses, CHEM 784 Foundations of Literature Review is required and is preferably taken during the first term to establish a solid foundation in research skills and critical analysis of scientific literature. Additionally, students must complete CHEM 794 Master’s Seminar in their second term, which provides an opportunity to present research progress and engage with peers and faculty, enhancing communication and professional development skills. Of the remaining courses, at least one must be taken within the Department of Chemistry to ensure in-depth knowledge in the field, while the other courses may be selected from other departments within the University to encourage interdisciplinary learning. Alternatively, students may request transfer credit for graduate-level courses completed at other accredited universities, subject to approval. Course selection should be made in consultation with the student’s research supervisor to align with their research focus and career goals. This combination of coursework and research ensures that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, equipping them for successful completion of their thesis and preparation for future scientific or professional endeavors.
