COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Peace and Conflict Studies (MPACS) coursework option requires the successful completion of 10 courses (5.00 units total). Full-time students typically complete the program over four consecutive terms, taking three courses in each of the first two terms and at least two in the final two, while part-time students must take at least two courses per academic year and complete the degree within five years. All students are required to complete 2.50 units from five core courses: PACS 601, 602, 603, 604, and 605. At least 1.00 unit must be selected from courses such as PACS 610 through PACS 626, and an additional 1.50 units can be selected from this list or other approved cross-listed graduate courses from departments such as Global Governance, Political Science, International Development, Sociology, and others. The program also offers three non-traditional, experiential options: PACS 621 (independent peace research), PACS 625 (internship), and PACS 626 (conflict resolution skills training), all of which require proposals and department approval. Students may also pursue the Graduate Specialization in Peace Integration, a recognized credential on transcripts. This requires specific PACS core courses, cross-disciplinary electives from different departments, and additional specialized coursework totaling 5.00 units, integrated within the MPACS degree.
