COURSE CURRICULUM

The Thesis option in the Master of Mathematics in Pure Mathematics Collaborative Quantum Information program requires a minimum of four graduate course credits, with an average grade of at least 70%, where each course carries a 0.50 unit weight. Among these courses, students must complete two core Quantum Information courses: QIC 710 Quantum Information Processing (also listed as PMATH 871) and QIC 750 Quantum Information Processing Devices. At least two of the four courses must be PMATH graduate courses numbered in the 800s or 900s, while the other two may include a maximum of one PMATH course numbered in the 600s and one graduate course outside of Pure Mathematics or Quantum Information. Course selection is subject to approval by the student’s graduate advisor. Reading courses may count toward the requirement only if approved by the Departmental Graduate Committee, although reading courses focused on thesis preparation typically do not count. If a student has credit for a course deemed equivalent to one of the core Quantum Information courses by the IQC Curriculum Committee, that core course requirement may be waived, but the total minimum of four required courses remains. This structured coursework, combined with the thesis research, provides a comprehensive foundation in both advanced mathematics and quantum information science, preparing students for cutting-edge research and professional opportunities in these fields.
