COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Mathematics in Statistics program requires students to successfully complete four one-term (0.50 unit weight) graduate-level courses with an overall average of at least 70%. These courses must include STAT 850 Estimation and Hypothesis Testing and at least two 900-level STAT courses. In addition to coursework, students must complete a master’s thesis and deliver an oral presentation of their research. Alternatively, the master’s research paper option requires students to complete seven one-term graduate-level courses with an overall average of at least 70%. This includes STAT 850 Estimation and Hypothesis Testing, four courses from at least two of three breadth categories—Applied Statistics (such as Experimental Design, Generalized Linear Models, Sampling Theory), Computational Statistics (including Computational Inference, Statistical Learning for Classification and Advanced Regression), and Probability and Stochastic Processes (such as Stochastic Processes 2 and Theory of Probability 1)—plus two elective courses. Both options provide rigorous training in statistical theory and methods while allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests. This comprehensive approach ensures graduates are well-prepared for careers in academia, industry, and government, equipped with strong analytical skills and expertise in a variety of statistical domains
