COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Mathematics in Computer Science program requires students to complete four one-term graduate courses, each with a 0.50 unit weight. At least one course must be at the 800 level, while no more than one course can be at the 600 level. Additionally, students may take no more than two courses for degree credit within the same area. Course selections typically must be chosen from the approved Categories and Areas, though exceptions can be granted by the School of Computer Science. The categories include Computing Technology with areas like Software Engineering (CS 645, CS 746, CS 846), Programming Languages (CS 642, CS 744), and Hardware and Software Systems (CS 650, CS 854, CS 869). The Mathematics of Computing category covers Algorithms and Complexity (CS 662, CS 765, CS 840) and Scientific and Symbolic Computing (CS 670, CS 770, CS 794). Computational Statistics (CS 680, CS 786) and Quantum Information and Computation (CS 766, CS 867) are also offered. The Applications category includes Artificial Intelligence (CS 679, CS 784), Databases (CS 640, CS 856*), Graphics and User Interfaces (CS 649, CS 781), Bioinformatics (CS 682), and Health Informatics (CS 792). Courses such as CS 856 and CS 858 have flexible classifications depending on their offerings. This structure ensures a comprehensive and diverse curriculum tailored to students’ research interests and career goals.
