COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Mathematics (MMath) – Research Paper option requires students to complete seven one-term (0.50 unit) graduate-level courses, with at least four of these being AMATH-designated. A minimum overall average of 70% must be maintained across all coursework. To ensure a solid foundation in advanced topics, students are limited to counting no more than four graduate courses that are cross-listed or held with undergraduate courses, including all 600-level AMATH courses and similarly structured offerings from other departments. Course selection is carried out in close consultation with the student’s supervisor to ensure alignment with both academic goals and research interests. While AMATH courses form the core of the program, students are encouraged to choose electives that broaden their understanding of mathematics and its real-world applications. Suitable electives may be drawn from other departments within the Faculties of Mathematics, Science, or Engineering, fostering interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. This structure allows students to build a well-rounded academic profile, while also gaining specialized skills relevant to their research focus. The program’s flexibility and research-oriented design prepare graduates for further academic study or for careers in sectors requiring advanced mathematical modelling, analysis, and problem-solving.
