COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Mathematics (MMath) in Applied Mathematics with the Collaborative Aeronautics thesis option combines advanced mathematical research with interdisciplinary aeronautical training. Students are required to complete four one-term (0.50 unit) graduate courses while maintaining a minimum average of 70%. At least two of these must be AMATH courses, and no more than two may be cross-listed with undergraduate courses. In addition, students must fulfill the Aeronautics core course requirement by completing AVIA 601 (Interdisciplinary Aeronautics) and AVIA 602 (Interdisciplinary Aeronautics Project), which bring together students from multiple faculties to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and problem-solving. Course selections are made in consultation with the student's supervisor and are intended to provide a broad understanding of mathematics and its applications to real-world challenges. This degree is part of the Collaborative Aeronautics Program, a joint initiative spanning several departments and faculties at the University of Waterloo. While students receive specialized mathematical training through their home department, they also work with peers from diverse academic backgrounds in the AVIA courses, preparing them to apply their research to cutting-edge problems in aviation, aerospace, and space. This combination of technical depth and interdisciplinary collaboration equips graduates for careers in research, industry, or further doctoral study.
