COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option for the Master of Environmental Studies in Sustainability Management requires students to complete a set of core courses and electives designed to build a strong foundation in sustainability principles and research methods. The required courses include SUSM 601 Foundations for Sustainability Management and SUSM 602 Theories and Concepts of Sustainability Management, both offered in the fall term, which provide essential knowledge on sustainability frameworks and management theories. Additionally, SUSM 603 Research Methods for Sustainable Management, offered in the winter term, equips students with the research skills necessary to conduct rigorous and meaningful investigations in sustainability. Beyond these core courses, students must select two graduate-level open electives that complement their area of study. These electives are chosen in consultation with the student’s supervisor and the program Graduate Administrator, allowing for a tailored academic experience that aligns with individual research interests and career goals. Together, these courses prepare students to conduct original research in sustainability management, culminating in a thesis that contributes to the field’s knowledge base. This program structure ensures that students graduate with both the theoretical understanding and practical research expertise needed to address complex sustainability challenges in various sectors.
