COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option for the Master of Environmental Studies in Planning Collaborative Aeronautics program requires the completion of a series of core and elective courses designed to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary foundation. Students must complete AVIA601 Interdisciplinary Aeronautics and AVIA602 Interdisciplinary Aeronautics Project, each worth 0.50 units, which focus on aeronautical training and collaborative projects with students from related fields. Core planning courses include PLAN700 Planning Paradigms and Theory, PLAN701 Land Use Planning Fundamentals, PLAN703 Planning Professional Practice, PLAN704 Methods of Planning Analysis, and PLAN710 Research Design, each 0.50 units, providing a solid conceptual and methodological base in urban and environmental planning. In addition, students must complete two project studio courses: PLAN720 Introductory Planning Project Studio (1.00 unit) and PLAN721 Advanced Planning Project Studio (1.00 unit), which offer hands-on, practical planning experience. To complement the core curriculum, students are required to take two 600-level elective one-term courses (totaling 1.00 unit) selected from a list of quantitatively oriented environmental courses identified by the School of Planning. Some electives may be taken from other departments, but approval from the student’s supervisor is necessary before enrollment. One half course may be a reading course, allowing for more personalized study tailored to the student’s research interests. This course structure supports the development of interdisciplinary skills critical for addressing complex planning challenges.
