COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option of the Master of Environmental Studies in Geography Collaborative Water program requires students to complete a focused set of courses designed to support their research and broaden their interdisciplinary understanding of water-related issues. All students must complete GEOG700A and GEOG700B (Geographic Scholarship and Practice 1 and 2), each carrying a 0.25 unit weight, which together help develop foundational academic and professional skills in geography. In addition, students must take two water-focused courses: WATER601 – Integrated Water Management (0.50), which covers theoretical and practical aspects of water management, and WATER602 – Integrated Water Management Project (0.50), which provides hands-on, interdisciplinary experience through applied group work and projects. To further support their research focus, students are also required to complete one additional graduate-level course (0.50 unit) in either GEOG (Geography) or GEMCC (Geospatial and Environmental Management and Climate Change) that complements their chosen research field. With approval from the Graduate Officer, students may also take this elective course outside of GEOG or GEMCC. These course requirements are designed to provide a strong academic foundation, interdisciplinary exposure, and practical skills that prepare students for in-depth thesis research in areas such as environmental science, geomatics, or human geography.
