COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s Research Paper option requires students to complete foundational courses GEOG700A and GEOG700B, Geographic Scholarship and Practice 1 and 2, each carrying a 0.25 unit weight, to build essential research skills and scholarly understanding. In addition, students must choose one advanced methodological course from options including GEOG604 (Spatial Statistics), GEOG617 (Applied Statistics in Ecology and Environment), GEOG620 (Foundations in Human Geography), GEOG625 (Qualitative Methods in Geography), or GEOG640 (Contextualizing Research in Earth System Science), each worth 0.50 units. To complement their research, students are required to complete four additional graduate-level courses, each with a 0.50 unit weight, offered through GEOG or GEMCC that align with their specific field of study. With the approval of the Graduate Officer, students may also select elective courses outside of GEOG or GEMCC, provided these courses are relevant and enhance their academic program. This course structure is designed to provide both depth and breadth in geography and environmental studies, preparing students to produce a well-informed and comprehensive research paper. The program supports interdisciplinary learning and equips students with the necessary theoretical and practical tools to engage with complex geographic and environmental challenges.
