COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s Research Paper option in the Master of Environmental Studies in Geography Collaborative Aeronautics program requires students to complete a structured set of courses that combine geographic scholarship with interdisciplinary aeronautics training. Students must take AVIA601 – Interdisciplinary Aeronautics (0.50) and AVIA602 – Interdisciplinary Aeronautics Project (0.50), which provide foundational knowledge and practical project experience in aeronautics. They also complete GEOG700A and GEOG700B – Geographic Scholarship and Practice 1 and 2 (each 0.25 unit weight), courses designed to develop advanced research skills and academic foundations in geography. Additionally, students must select and complete one of the following courses: GEOG604 – Spatial Statistics, GEOG617 – Applied Statistics in Ecology and Environment, GEOG620 – Foundations in Human Geography, GEOG625 – Qualitative Methods in Geography, or GEOG640 – Contextualizing Research in Earth System Science (each 0.50). Beyond these requirements, students complete two other GEOG or GEMCC graduate-level courses (0.50 unit weight each) that complement their research focus. With approval from the Graduate Officer, students may substitute elective courses from outside the Geography or GEMCC departments to tailor their program further. This combination of courses equips students with interdisciplinary expertise and research skills to complete a substantial research paper addressing complex topics in geography and aeronautics.
