COURSE CURRICULUM

The coursework option in the Master of Development Practice program requires students to complete a structured sequence of courses across three academic terms. In the Fall term, students take three required courses: DEVP 601 (Foundations of Sustainable Development Practice), DEVP 602 (International Development: Theories and Practice), and DEVP 609 (Sustainability Concepts, Applications and Key Debates), along with one graduate-level elective. The Winter term includes the core course DEVP 607 (Methods of Sustainable Development Practice: A Systems Approach) and three additional graduate-level elective courses. In the Spring term, students must complete either DEVP 611 (Field Placement Project) or a graduate-level project course approved by the MDP Academic Program Director and SEED Graduate Officer. Elective options include courses such as DEVP 603 (Global Health), DEVP 604 (Sustainable Cities), DEVP 605 (Economics for Sustainable Development), DEVP 606 (Energy and Sustainability), DEVP 608 (Water and Security), and SUSM 678 (Governing the Commons). These electives allow students to tailor their studies to their specific interests within the field of sustainable development.
