COURSE CURRICULUM

Students in the coursework option of the Master of Climate Change program must successfully complete six graduate-level courses, each with a 0.50 unit weight. This includes three required core courses: GEMCC 601 Climate Change: Physical Science Basis, GEMCC 602 Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation, and GEMCC 603 Climate Change Mitigation. In addition, students tailor their studies by selecting three climate change designated electives from a varied list that changes annually. These electives cover diverse topics such as climate prediction and modeling, climate services, data analytics, natural hazards and disaster risk reduction, land use and the carbon cycle, climate governance, health systems resilience, business and climate change, community planning, sustainability transitions in cities, carbon accounting, and climate change projects. Beyond the core and designated electives, students must also complete two open electives. These can be chosen from the climate change electives list, partnering programs within the Faculty of Environment (subject to prerequisites and availability), or graduate programs in other Faculties, also subject to prerequisites and capacity. This flexible structure enables students to customize their program according to their interests and career goals, ensuring a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education in climate change science, policy, and practice.
