COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering must successfully complete four graduate courses, each with a 0.50 unit weight, that count toward their degree credit at the University of Waterloo. These courses must meet specific criteria, including at least two courses from Systems Design Engineering at the 500, 600, or 700 level, with a maximum of one 500-level course permitted. Additionally, students are required to take at least one course from the Systems Design Engineering core methods courses list, which includes SYDE 600 Systems Theory, Models, Research & Design, SYDE 620 Fundamentals of Continuous System Models, SYDE 631 Time Series Modelling, SYDE 640 Experimental Design, and SYDE 675 Pattern Recognition. Up to two courses may be taken outside the Faculty of Engineering but must be from the Faculties of Mathematics, Health, Environment, or Science. Course selections are carefully arranged by the student’s supervisor(s) in consultation with the student and require approval from the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies to ensure alignment with the program’s academic standards and objectives. Students focusing on one of the program’s Graduate Research Fields should notify their supervisor(s) of their chosen specialization to facilitate appropriate and relevant course selection that supports their research and career goals.
