COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering Collaborative Nanotechnology program must successfully complete NANO 600 Introduction to Nanotechnology along with three graduate courses (0.50 unit weight each) from the University of Waterloo. These courses must include at least two from Systems Design Engineering at the 500, 600, or 700 level, one from the Nanotechnology elective course list, and one from the Systems Design Engineering core methods courses list. Students may take a maximum of two courses outside the Faculty of Engineering, but these must be from the Faculties of Mathematics, Health, Environment, or Science, and only one course at the 500 level is allowed. The nanotechnology elective courses include NANO 601 Characterization of Nanomaterials, NANO 602 Structure and Spectroscopy of Nanoscale Materials, NANO 603 Nanocomposites, NANO 604 Nanomechanics and Molecular Dynamics Simulations, NANO 605/SYDE 683 Design of MEMS & NEMS, NANO 606/SYDE 682 Advanced MicroElectroMechanical Systems: Physics, Design & Fabrication, and NANO 707 From Atoms to Crystals, Quantum Wells, Wires and Dots. Core courses are designed to provide foundational knowledge and skills necessary for advanced nanoscale interdisciplinary research. Students with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nanotechnology Engineering or a Master’s degree in Nanotechnology from the University of Waterloo may waive NANO 600 and instead choose an additional elective from the nanotechnology course list. Some students may be required to take extra courses to meet program-specific requirements.
