COURSE CURRICULUM

Students pursuing the thesis option in the Master of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering Collaborative Aeronautics program must successfully complete AVIA 601 Interdisciplinary Aeronautics and AVIA 602 Interdisciplinary Aeronautics Project, along with three graduate courses (each 0.50 unit weight) counting towards degree credit at the University of Waterloo. Of these courses, at least two must be from Systems Design Engineering at the 500, 600, or 700 level, with at most one course taken at the 500 level. Additionally, students are required to take at least one course from the Systems Design Engineering core methods list, which includes SYDE 600 Systems Theory, Models, Research & Design; SYDE 620 Fundamentals of Continuous System Models; SYDE 631 Time Series Modelling; SYDE 640 Experimental Design; and SYDE 675 Pattern Recognition. Only one course may be taken outside the Faculty of Engineering, provided it is from the Faculties of Mathematics, Health, Environment, or Science. This degree is offered through the Collaborative Aeronautics Program, a joint initiative among multiple departments and schools across several faculties that fosters interdisciplinary perspectives on aeronautics. Students complete their specialist training within their home departments while collaborating with peers from diverse disciplines in the core interdisciplinary AVIA courses. Course selections are coordinated by supervisors in consultation with students and require approval from the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies.
