COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Applied Science in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Collaborative Nanotechnology program must complete ME 600 Engineering Practice, Research Methods, Ethics & Professional Development for MME Graduate Students (0.25 unit weight) and four one-term (0.50 unit weight) graduate-level courses, including NANO 600 Introduction to Nanotechnology and one nanotechnology elective course. Nanotechnology electives are designed to equip students with foundational knowledge and interdisciplinary research skills in nanoscale science and engineering. Available electives include NANO 601 Characterization of Nanomaterials, NANO 602 Structure and Spectroscopy of Nanoscale Materials, NANO 603 Nanocomposites, NANO 604 Nanomechanics and Molecular Dynamics Simulations, NANO 605/SYDE 683 Design of MEMS & NEMS, NANO 606/SYDE 682 Advanced MEMS: Physics, Design & Fabrication, and NANO 707 From Atoms to Crystals, Quantum Wells, Wires and Dots. These courses enhance the student’s ability to contribute to advanced research in nanotechnology. A maximum of one 500-level course may be counted toward degree requirements. Students who completed their BASc in Nanotechnology Engineering at the University of Waterloo are exempt from NANO 600 and may instead take an additional course from the nanotechnology elective list. This curriculum ensures students develop strong foundational and specialized competencies essential for research and innovation in nanotechnology.
