COURSE CURRICULUM

The thesis option for the Master of Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering requires students to complete at least five graduate-level courses, each worth 0.50 units. Of these, a minimum of three courses must be from within the Faculty of Engineering, while up to two may be taken from the Faculties of Math or Science. At least two courses must be selected from an annually updated list of approved core courses aligned with the student’s area of specialization, as specified in their admission letter. All MASc students must complete at least two ECE courses, with core courses counting toward this requirement. Students are expected to choose courses with their supervisor’s approval, typically at the 600 or 700 level, though one advanced undergraduate 400-level ECE course may be permitted with justification and paperwork. The core courses span diverse fields such as antennas and microwaves, biomedical engineering, circuits and systems, communications, computer hardware and software, nanotechnology, power and energy systems, quantum information, silicon devices, systems and controls, VLSI, and wireless communication. Examples include courses on radio frequency design, machine learning, optimization, semiconductor devices, and quantum mechanics. This flexible, rigorous curriculum ensures students build strong technical expertise tailored to their research interests under expert faculty guidance.
